Local Leaders Condemn Political Violence After Conservative Commentator’s Killing
Leaders in and around West Alabama are condemning political violence following the apparent assassination of young conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot in Utah today.
Kirk, who once spoke on the campus of the University of Alabama in 2021, was a conservative radio host and podcaster, a close ally of President Donald Trump, and the founder of Turning Point USA.
He was fatally shot on Wednesday during an outdoor speaking event on the campus of Utah Valley University.

Local leaders, including Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox and former Northport Mayor Bobby Herndon, decried the killing and all political violence.
"America must never be a place where political views and voices are silenced through violence," said Maddox, calling it sickening. "Charlie’s wife, children, family and friends deserved to have him in their lives. Our family will be praying for God’s grace to all those who loved Charlie."
Herndon declared evil will not triumph.
Even Governor Kay Ivey weighed in on social media, calling Kirk a patriot.
Leaders across political lines are speaking out against violence in the wake of the killing, which comes during widespread division in the country.
