Kim Harwood, an agent who got her start at Carrie Fitts Real Estate, is the 2021 recipient of the Tuscaloosa Association of Realtors' Realtor of the Year Award.

Through her seven years in real estate, Harwood's philosophy relies on one of her core strengths: helping others. Before realty, the Tuscaloosa native demonstrated her passion for service through more than 20 years of working as a teacher, even going on to start and run her own school. She's also responsible for founding and directing a preschool at Trinity Presbyterian Church.

"She began Real Estate knowing that two things were important to people: their family (especially their children) and their biggest investment they make and that's their home," read a Thursday press release. "She knows she was meant to serve people and she’s right where she’s supposed to be."

Harwood's latest claim to local fame was her recent sale of a $3.25 million home on Lake Tuscaloosa in April, breaking the record for the largest-ever residential real estate transaction in West Alabama listed in MLS records.

Harwood's always believed that the key to her success in real estate is through developing relationships, gaining trust and working hard to make her clients happy. Buying a home is often the biggest investment a person can make in their life, and Harwood takes the responsibility to deliver on her clients' dreams very seriously.

“I think the key to anyone’s success is how someone measures it," Harwood said in the release. "For me it’s knowing I have represented my clients well, being creative, knowing the market, having good working relationships with my fellow realtors, title companies, lenders, and STAYING educated and involved."

This is not the first honor Harwood has earned during her time as a realtor, either. Beyond Realtor of the Year, she was also the recipient of the TAR Rookie Realtor of the Year in 2016. Harwood was voted Tuscaloosa's Best of the Best Realtor in 2020, and her record-breaking home sale continues to keep her name in the headlines.

“Realtor of the year is more than an award; it's an honor, a privilege, and a responsibility of knowing that I am representing realtors," Harwood said in the release. "Realtors who work hard, are deeply involved in their community, fight fiercely for their clients, always learning, always growing, and who love Tuscaloosa and making it home for so many."
