West Alabama Impacts

James Spann, Alabama Weather Network Chief Meteorologist, shares that the “system will move quickly through West Alabama tomorrow morning. Keep in mind the main wind/rain/storm surge impact will be along and to the east of the circulation center.”

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has given us a good overview of impacts that we could face in West Alabama.

Winds: Gusts as high as 50 to 60+ mph late tonight through Saturday, resulting in the potential for widespread downed trees and power lines.

Rain: Amounts of 1.5 to 4 inches, with locally higher amounts up to 5 inches, will result in the potential for flash flooding, especially in urban, low-lying, and poor drainage areas.

Tropical Tornadoes: Isolated tornadoes may develop across along and east of Interstate 65 on Saturday, with the highest potential near the Georgia state line. Eastern portions of the state are in a level 1 to 2, out 2 of 5 risk to account for this activity.
