Stillman College Tiger Nation, Football Is Coming Home

In a landmark announcement, Stillman College revealed the return of its football program, restoring a proud tradition that has long united students, alumni, and the Tuscaloosa community while reinforcing the College’s vision for the future.

“Football has a special place in the history and spirit of Stillman College,” said Dr. Yolanda W. Page, President of Stillman College. “As we celebrate 150 years of educating students and transforming lives, we are also looking boldly toward the next 150 years. The return of football is an opportunity to strengthen the student experience, reconnect generations of Stillman alumni, and create new energy and opportunities for our campus and the Tuscaloosa community.”

Tiger football’s return marks a new chapter for Stillman College. While honoring a proud legacy, the program will help strengthen the student experience, support enrollment growth, engage alumni, and create partnerships throughout the community.

The return of Tiger football represents more than the revival of an athletic program. The return of Tiger football represents more than the revival of an athletic program. “The program produced memorable moments on the field while helping shape young men through scholarship, discipline, leadership, and service.”

As the program enters a new era, Stillman College plans to honor that legacy while advancing a “model focused on academic achievement, student-athlete development, competitive excellence, and fiscal responsibility,” said the press release.

“This is about much more than what happens on Saturday afternoons,” said Terrance Whittle, Director of Athletics at Stillman College. “We have an opportunity to build a football program that reflects the values of Stillman College and develops students academically, athletically, and personally. We are excited about what this means for our students, alumni, and supporters.”

Football’s Broader Impact

The impact of the football program will extend beyond the field; it will strengthen many facets of college life. This includes “expanding opportunities for student-athletes and enhancing the marching band, cheerleading, student organizations, and game-day traditions,” said the press release.

Beyond campus, the program will expand opportunities to engage alumni, build strategic corporate relationships, increase philanthropic giving, secure sponsorships, and encourage community investment.

The press release added that “additional announcements regarding coaching leadership, recruitment, schedules, facilities, partnerships, and opportunities to support Tiger football will be shared at a later date.”
