Tuscaloosa NAACP Responds to Owner’s N-Word Apology
The Tuscaloosa County Branch NAACP has acknowledged the public apology from Mr. Jack Moltz, co-owner of Nick's in the Sticks, for his use of the N-word in reference to African American patrons, following his initial denial of the accusations.
"While we acknowledge Mr. Moltz's apology, we must hold him accountable for his actions and ensure that this incident leads to meaningful change,” said Lisa Young, Tuscaloosa Branch NAACP President.
“The Tuscaloosa County Branch NAACP will continue to monitor the situation and advocate for the rights and dignity of all community members."
According to a press release from the Tuscaloosa County Branch NAACP, “they remain deeply concerned about the impact of his words and the broader implications for our community.”
“The use of such a hateful racial slur, particularly by a business owner, is not only hurtful to those directly targeted but also perpetuates the systemic racism that continues to harm communities of color.”
The Tuscaloosa County Branch NAACP recognizes that an apology can be a step toward accountability and healing, and emphasizes that words alone are insufficient.
The organization urges Mr. Moltz and the management of Nick's in the Sticks to take concrete actions to demonstrate their commitment to change and ensure their establishment is a safe and respectful environment for all patrons, regardless of race.
The Tuscaloosa County Branch NAACP Calls for the Following Actions

Ongoing Commitment to Anti-Racism
The Tuscaloosa County Branch NAACP asks "Nick's in the Sticks commit to ongoing efforts to combat racism within their establishment, including clear policies and practices that support inclusivity and respect for all patrons."
The Tuscaloosa County Branch NAACP "hopes that this incident serves as a catalyst for positive change and that other businesses will take this as an opportunity to reflect on their own practices and commit to fostering an environment of respect and equality."
