Many Alabamians will be paying close attention to the heat index values this week, but residents should also stay aware of the potential for severe weather. There is sufficient heat in place for any storm that develops on Wednesday, June 25, to become strong to severe.

The Storm Prediction Center has a portion of Alabama under a “Marginal Risk” for severe weather on Wednesday.

Key Things to Watch Out For

The main threat outside of the heat index values is damaging winds, said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said, “Where afternoon storms do form, they will be heavy with potential for strong, gusty winds and small hail. The chance of any one spot seeing an afternoon storm today is 20-30 percent, and 30-40 percent tomorrow and Thursday.”
