The Race to NYC: Hurricane’s Ward Increases Lead
As we enter the heart of the college football season, players are starting to emerge as frontrunners for the Heisman trophy.
Ward continued to improve his Heisman bid last Saturday night against South Florida, throwing for 404 yards and three touchdowns as the Hurricanes washed over the Bulls 50-15.
The University of Miami signal-caller's odds to win the Heisman shortened from +450 to +350 this week, per FanDuel SportsBook.
The Hurricanes and Ward face off against Virginia Tech on Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT.
Following Ward is Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart at +500 odds. Dart, like Ward, has consistently put up video game numbers through the first four games of the season, averaging 388.5 passing yards and four passing touchdowns a game. The Kaysville, Utah, native has added three rushing touchdowns this season in addition to his twelve scores through the air.
Dart and the No. 6 ranked Ole Miss Rebels welcome the Kentucky Wildcats to The Grove this Saturday to kick off SEC play.
Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe's odds dropped from +600 to +700 after Alabama's bye week; however, the Katy, Texas., native has a golden opportunity to solidify his case as a Heisman candidate this Saturday as the No. 4 Crimson Tide host the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs.
Like last week, rounding out the top five is Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava at +1000 odds and Oregon gunslinger Dillon Gabriel at +1200 yards.
Iamaleava and the Vols travel to Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday to take on the unranked Arkansas Razorbacks, while Gabriel and the Ducks travel to Los Angeles to face the UCLA Bruins.
Colorado two-way phenom Travis Hunter also appears at the top of the list, sitting at eighth with +1700 odds. Hunter continues to dominate both sides of the football; in the Buffs' overtime win over Baylor, Hunter caught seven catches for 130 yards and forced the game-winning fumble against the Bears.
