Ryan Grubb Doubles Down on Ty Simpson Post-Spring Comments
At the end of spring practice, Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb shocked many by saying, "If we had to play a game on Saturday, Ty Simpson would be the starter."

It's a stark contrast to what Crimson Tide fans were used to under former head coach Nick Saban. On Thursday, Ryan Fowler, host of The Game on Tide 100.9, interviewed Grubb, where he asked Grubb the same question two months later. Would Simpson be the Crimson Tide's starter if Alabama's season started on Saturday?
"He is," Grubb said. "He is right now."
Grubb added a caveat to the endorsement of Simpson as Alabama's starting quarterback, saying the Tide's staff doesn't deal in "absolutes" until they have to.
"Those were not surprising things. Those are things we had already talked about with the guys. We had our post-spring evaluations done with the guys. Ty took care of the football better; he operated better. I thought he improved for an older quarterback. I know he's young to playing and starting experience. But as an older guy, I thought, especially toward the latter part of spring, he started to show more of those characteristics."
The Tide still has 79 days until the first game of the season, when Alabama travels to Tallahassee, Florida, to take on the Florida State Seminoles on August 30 at 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC.
