Jam Miller, “It’s my turn to step up”
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — In his first two seasons in Tuscaloosa, Jam Miller sat behind the likes of Jahmyr Gibbs and Jase McClellan, learning and developing his game.
Yet, over those two seasons, Miller still saw a sizable share of action: recording 424 yards and three touchdowns on 74 carries.
In 2024, Miller ascended as one of the featured ball carriers in the Crimson Tide offense; however, the Tyler, Texas, native still had to split touches with quarterback Jalen Milroe and running back Justice Haynes.
Now, entering his senior year, Miller is poised to be the premier running back and a leader for the Crimson Tide.
"It's my turn to step up," noted Miller during his media availability Tuesday.
"Becoming more of a leader," said the running back when asked about the ways he's improved the most. "Being able to speak up, encourage people more. I feel like in the previous years, I kind of laid back. I watched some of the older guys and saw how they lead. Now, I'm the older guy in the room."
Head coach Kalen DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb have noted Miller's efforts this offseason. When asked about what he has seen from the running backs, Grubb simply stated, "Jam Miller." DeBoer also praised Miller, saying last Friday, "Jam had the best day, and that's been consistent."
With his fourth and final season at Alabama looming, Miller has one goal in mind: a national title.
"The job's not finished [...] we know what our number one goal is and that's winning a national championship," Miller said in July.
