Miami QB Cam Ward Blasts SEC, Playoff Committee
The Alabama Crimson Tide was ranked No. 11 on Tuesday night, almost locking the Crimson Tide into the College Football Playoffs pending the result of the ACC Championship game between Clemson and SMU.
Alabama was ranked No. 11 and the Miami Hurricanes were ranked No. 12, effectively eliminating the Hurricanes from playoff contention after finishing the regular season with a 10-2 record, with their only losses coming on the road to Georgia Tech and Syracuse. Alabama finished 9-3 with losses to Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and Oklahoma.
CFP Chair Warde Manuel gave his reasoning for the committee ranking Alabama ahead of Miami, "Alabama is 3-1 against current top-25 teams and Miami is 0-1. Alabama is 6-1 against teams above .500 and Miami is 4-2."
Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward was unhappy with the committee's decision, and let the world know about his issues with the rankings.
"I mean at the end of the day them boys who in that committee, I really doubt they watch tape or not... We’re playing better defenses, in my opinion, than the SEC..." Ward said to On3 Sports.
The Hurricanes had an opportunity to clinch the ACC Championship game with a win over Syracuse but ended up losing to the Orange 42-38, allowing Clemson to back door its way into the conference championship game.
