Jalen Milroe Reflects on 40-35 Loss in Nashville
After a gut-wrenching 40-35 loss against the Vanderbilt Commodores Saturday evening, Jalen Milroe spoke to reporters about his and the Crimson Tide's performance.
Milroe's opening statement:
"When you play a game of football, of course, you may want plays back. You know, you want opportunities. The biggest thing for us is just trust, trust in one another. The offense and defense are clicking. At the end of the day, when you approach a football field, it's all about the team; we're all wearing the script A; today, we were all wearing white. It's all about being team-oriented and just reflecting on each other."
On if he was pushing for an onside kick late in the 4th quarter or if he was confident in the defense:
"Confident in the defense," said Milroe. "You know, 100% just confident in them. Just talking on the sideline, trying to get the game plan so whenever we get back on the field, it's clicking, moving in the right direction. So, it's all about communication. On the sideline with the offensive guys, just getting everyone on the same plan."
Milroe's message to younger guys on how to deal with a loss like this:
"Reflect and build. I think that's so important for a football team because, of course, losing feels bad, you know. It's all about how you can reflect, refine and get better. That's gonna be so critical for us."
If there was a flag on the pick-six in the 1st quarter:
"No he [the defensive back] did a good job. I gotta have better eye discipline and read the coverages better. That's on me. [...] I take all ownership on that; I shouldn't have put Ryan [Williams] in that situation."
On if a loss makes him look at the season overall or on a game-by-game basis:
"I think single, game by game. I think that's so important as we go on this path, to do it one game at a time, one game at a time. Coach Sheridan mentioned it to us, one game shouldn't be our best game," Milroe said. "Each game that goes by we should get better and better and better, and learn from it. No matter what, that's what is so unique about playing the game of football. each of these defenses gives us different looks. So, it makes us better, and it makes us really channel in and try to have great eye discipline, play with ball dominance, and just protect each other as much as possible. So, I think we just gotta learn, we gotta grow, and just take it day by day."
