Grubb Discusses his Coaching Growth from his time in the NFL
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — On The Game with Ryan Fowler, Thursday afternoon, Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb discussed how his time with the Seattle Seahawks helped develop his coaching skills.

"I think the one thing we saw was to control the ball," said Grubb to Ryan Fowler, "We [the Seahawks] were in the top five in the NFL when it came to throwing the football. I think it goes to show if you don't have the right mix of run and pass, you will struggle to win the big games in the big moments. Those were two things that we weren't where we wanted to be running the football, and we needed to improve on that. The NFL was a good reminder that the same things in the college and NFL apply, where balance and creativity have to meet each other each week. Find ways to be creative in the run scheme and do that in the passing game."
During Grubb's lone season in the NFL, the Seahawks finished fifth in the NFL in passing offense with 4379 yards, primarily via the arm of Geno Smith, which accounted for 4320 yards. However, on the ground, the Seahawks were near the bottom of the league, only gaining 1627 rushing yards in 2024.
In Grubb's last season on the sideline with Kalen Deboer during Washington's run to the national title in 2023, the Huskies' passing offense ranked second in FBS with 343.7 passing yards per game, while their rushing attack came in at 106 with 118.4 rushing yards per game. However, Washington averaged 4.3 yards per carry, the same mark as the Crimson Tide in 2023.
