Blue blood trumped crimson blood at Kentucky Saturday in SEC basketball.

Kentucky chose that day to wake up, play defense and shoot well and the result was a 117-95 win for UK. The Wildcats placed five men in double figures.

Alabama didn't have many bright spots in the loss, but did also have five players with double-digit scoring.  Crimson Tide players scoring in double figures included Rylan Griffen with 21, Mark Sears with 20, Grant Nelson and Aaron Estrada each with 13 and one rare bright spot, the dozen points put up by freshman forward Mo Dioubate.

The most points the Alabama basketball program had ever allowed was 122 by USC in 1970. That mark was in jeopardy before Kentucky finally and mercifully took its foot off the proverbial gas.

Alabama fell to 19-8, 11-3 SEC and should Tennessee beat Texas A&M Saturday night the Vols and Tide would be tied atop the league standings.

Next up for UA is a Wednesday trip to Oxford, Miss. to take on Ole Miss. Tip time for that contest is set for 8 p.m. CT and be carried on 95.3 The Bear.
