Alabama’s Rotating Door at Tackle
Alabama's offensive line struggled at times last season, but the room is expected to take a step forward in its development in 2024.
Alabama currently has an open competition at right tackle, seemingly between Elijah Pritchett and Wilkin Formby. Pritchett competed and rotated well into the season with Proctor at left tackle, while Formby saw limited reps in three games for Alabama.
It's presumed Proctor will take his spot back at left tackle after spending spring at Iowa, but on Wednesday's first practice of fall camp, It was Pritchett and Formby as the two starting tackles for Alabama.
Kalen DeBoer spoke about the rotation of tackles Alabama had on Wednesday,
"Pritchett took a lot of reps. He had a nice day," DeBoer said. "I thought Wilkin did a nice job. So a lot of mixing and matching, especially at the tackle position, I guess. The interior three was pretty consistent."
"These guys up front - really a couple of them haven't been there throughout the spring," DeBoer said. "Parker is now back in there. Kadyn [is] here."
In 2023, Proctor beat out Pritchett for the starting role, but he'll have to earn that spot back by competing with Pritchett again.
Proctor's lost some weight, telling Alex Scarborough of Bama247 he lost around 10 pounds at the start of June.
DeBoer spoke about Proctor on Wednesday,
"I don't have a huge, I guess, understanding of what he was a year ago, other than watching on film," DeBoer said. "But it feels like he's in really good shape and lean. When you ask people who would have an understanding - Coach Ballou and so forth - it would be nothing than positive about the progress he's made. Strength and explosive numbers I know are up. That's facts, that's real. And also just the way his body looks. Leaner. He's just so dense and he's got so much mass. He's gonna be big no matter what."
"I love his demeanor out there. It's good to have him back. Good to have him here."
Alabama's offensive line will start to take shape throughout Fall camp. The mainstays will likely be Tyler Booker, Parker Brailsford, and Jaeden Roberts on the interior of the offensive line.
