The Tide Rolls as Alabama Defeats Maryland in Players Era Festival
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Alabama Crimson Tide had the chance to leave Las Vegas 2-1 with greater knowledge of the Crimson Tide's rotation after a tough contest against Gonzaga and big wins over UNLV and Maryland. Alabama was familiar with Maryland's head coach, Buzz Williams, as Williams previously coached at Texas A&M.

Williams's Terrapins wouldn't be an easy matchup, but Alabama jumped out early on Williams and Maryland before coasting for much of the second half with a 105-72 victory over Maryland. Alabama held a 20-point lead at halftime in the game.
Labaron Philon and Aden Holloway continued big performances that they've had in Las Vegas during the Players Era Festival, with Philon scoring a career-high 29 points in Alabama's 10-point loss to Gonzaga, and Holloway scoring a season-high 26 points on 5-6 shooting from three-point range and 9-14 from the floor. On Wednesday night against Maryland, Holloway and Philon helped Alabama jump out to its big lead, with both players leading the Tide in points in the first half with 11 apiece.
Holloway continued his strong shooting from the night before in Alabama's 105-72 victory over Maryland, shooting 71% from three-point range. He also contributed a season high in assists with 10 assists in his first career double-double.
Alabama came into the tournament short-handed, with senior guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr. ruled out for the entire tournament. Houston Mallette got banged up in Alabama's loss to Gonzaga, and Keitenn Bristow was ruled out for Alabama's matchup with Maryland after not playing the final eight minutes of Alabama's win over UNLV. Despite only having nine scholarship players available against Maryland, Alabama had no problems with the Terrapins.
The shots were falling in Alabama's favor on Wednesday night, shooting 58% from the floor and 45% from three-point range. Oats highlighted rebounding after Alabama's Monday night loss to Gonzaga, and the Tide's players responded by winning the rebounding battle against UNLV, 48-28, and winning the rebounding battle against Maryland, 49-30.
Freshman guard Davion Hannah also had a strong performance against Maryland, with double-digit points for the first time in his career and efficient scoring from the floor, shooting 71%.
