Alabama BOT Officially Approves Saban Field
The Alabama Board of Trustees has officially approved the renaming of the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium after legendary former head coach, Nick Saban.
Nick Saban won seven national championships across two college football teams. One with the LSU Tigers, and six with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Saban is heralded as the greatest college football coach of all time, in large part due to his 17-year run with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The University of Alabama will honor Coach Saban and his wife, Mrs. Terry Saban, for their contributions to the Crimson Tide football team. The Board of Trustees has officially approved the renaming of the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium to Nick Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
There will be two ceremonies on Saturday night. One will take place at 2:30 p.m. prior to the Walk of Champions. They will reveal the new name on the signage for the stadium on University Blvd., and Nick Sabanand Mrs. Terry will take the Walk of Champions into the stadium as the first members to walk Saban Field.
At halftime of the Crimson TIde's game against South Florida on Saturday, a ceremony will be held to honor Coach Saban on the field.
The Sabans were present at the Board meeting, where they were awarded the official documents of the field naming.
Mrs. Terry and Coach Saban spoke after the official passing of the name change.
"l had some of the greatest memories of my lifetime, the 17 years being the coach at Alabama. Maybe the best opportunity that anybody could ever have," Coach Saban said.
Athletic Director Greg Byrne was also present.
"We’ve always been happy when people come up to us and say they’ve named their dog Saban," Mrs. terry Saban said. "We realized (the naming of Saban Field) is really a cut above that."
"The naming of Saban Field will ensure that the Saban Legacy will be a part of Alabama Football History forever. We're so grateful. We'd like to thank the Board of Trustees, President Bell, and Greg Byrne for this tremendous honor. On behalf of our family, and the hundreds of people who helped make this happen, thank you very much," Mrs. Terry said.
"This is the honor of a lifetime," Nick Saban said.
