As the Thread has reported, police in Tuscaloosa were called to an area near Kaulton Field Wednesday afternoon on reports of a shooting and found three males suffering from gunshot wounds.

All were transported to DCH Reginal Medical Center, where one has since died. Kennedy identified that victim as Keandre Simmons, age 18.

Several people were involved in the shooting, and Kennedy said all parties were in police custody while investigators sort out what happened and who is liable.

On Thursday afternoon, Kennedy said the first suspect, 19-year-old Jarell Hodges, has been charged with Felony Murder.

Simmons' death marks the 18th homicide in Tuscaloosa in 2024 - adding to what is already the highest number in a year in modern history, if not all-time.

The investigation is still ongoing and more charges are possible, Kennedy said.
