Big AL, beauty queens, sorority spirit, marching bands, cheerleaders big and small kicked off UA Homecoming Game Day through the streets of downtown Tuscaloosa and onto this University of Alabama campus this morning with the annual homecoming parade.

Sparce crowds at the beginning as the parade stepped off led by sirens and flashing blue lights grew larger and deeper as the marching and rolling units made the turn from Greensboro Avenue, onto University Blvd. and on toward the UA campus.

Sprinkled among the mostly Crimson Tide crowd were a few Sooner fans. Because the two team's colors are so similar, you had to look closely to see the OU or Sooners on shirts and sweaters worn by the visitors from the plains.

"We travel to most OU road games," said Blair Caples, an Oklahoma grad from Omaha. "But it's rare that we are the homecoming opponent. I hope that motivates our boys."  She said her family attended the pep rally and bonfire last night and are enjoying the pageantry of the Alabama Homecoming.

Big AL led off the parade followed by Homecoming Queen Morgan Grzybowski and her court, followed by the Million Dollar Band, spirited sorority units, tiny beauty queens, cheerleaders and majorettes. Wrapping up the hour-long parade were the UA law students dressed in somewhat formal attire.

"We look forward to homecoming every year," an employee at Babe's Doughnuts on Greensboro Avenue remark. "It is always a big day for sales, and all the customers are in a great mood."

Next up, a pre-game concert, gatherings on the quad, the Tide team's "Walk of Champions" and kickoff for Coach Kalen DeBoer's secund Capstone homecoming.

The football matchup between #4 Alabama and #8 Oklahoma is big enough with all that is riding on the outcome of the 2:30 game this afternoon. But, add to that the importance of winning a homecoming game in front of the old grads and it shoots the importance through the roof.

Lights, Crimson, Action - ROLL TIDE!!
