Holt High School Teacher Arrested for Public Intoxication on Campus
A teacher who was on campus at Holt High School in Tuscaloosa County was arrested by deputies Wednesday and charged with public intoxication.
In a letter to parents at the school, Superintendent Keri Johnson of the Tuscaloosa County Schools System and Holt High Principal Daniel Dickens said special education teacher Melissa Steele was taken into custody by sheriff's deputies Wednesday and charged with public intoxication.

In their message, they said they wanted to notify concerned parties but could not publicly discuss the details of the criminal investigation. Still, they said Steele has been placed on administrative leave and no intoxicating substances were found during a search of the Holt High campus or in Steele's vehicle.
They also pledged to cooperate with local law enforcement on the investigation and said any parent with concerns could reach out to school administrators to talk more.
Because public intoxication is a misdemeanor and it is the policy of the Tuscaloosa Thread to only share mugshots of felony suspects except in extreme circumstances, Steele's mugshot will not be published here.
