Gordo Man Dies in Fayette County Crash Sunday Night
A man from Gordo, Alabama was killed Sunday night in a single-vehicle accident in neighboring Fayette County, State Troopers report.
Lieutenant Jeremy J. Burkett, a spokesperson for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, said the victim was Alandis D. Smith, a 29-year-old man who lived in Gordo, in Pickens County.
Smith was reportedly driving a 2004 Toyota Highlander on Alabama Highway 159 when he left the roadway, overturned and struck an embankment. Police estimate the wreck happened just after 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
Burkett said Smith was not using a seatbelt and was ejected from the SUV when it crashed. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Burkett said the crash happened near Mile Marker 22 on Alabama 159, which is about five miles south of the city of Fayette.
No other information was available Monday.
