Ivey Appointments Include New 4th Circuit Judge & Others
Gov. Ivey has released a list of new appointments which include a new 4th Judicial District Circuit Court Judge and others with Tuscaloosa ties to various positions.
There will be a new Circuit Judge in the Fourth Judicial Circuit, which encompasses Dallas, Wilcox, Perry, Hale and Bibb counties. Gov. Kay Ivey has appointed Robert “Bryan” Jones of Selma as one of two new circuit court judges in the state. Teh other is James Lewis “Luke” Farmer of Roanoke was appointed Circuit Judge in the Fifth Judicial Circuit, which covers Chambers, Macon, Tallapoosa and Randolph counties.
The two are among 31 appointments to fill vacancies across the state, including a new district attorney for Lauderdale County.
Jones is a graduate of Auburn University and the Birmingham School of Law. He succeeds Circuit Judge Collins Pettaway Jr., who retired in February after 13 years on the Dallas County Circuit Court bench. Pettaway was first elected on November 6, 2012, to replace Thomas Jones. He was sworn in on the bench in 2013.
In her announcement of Jones' appointment, Gov. Ivey said he brings more than a decade of criminal law experience as an Assistant District Attorney in the Fourth Circuit, where he served as Senior Chief Trial Attorney and lead prosecutor for major violent and white-collar crimes, as well as Director of the Fourth Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force.
Ivey credits Jones' familiarity with the fourth circuit as a major advantage in his appointment to the bench.
Jones was quoted as remarking that he is humbled by the appointment and looks forward to continuing his service to the citizens of the Fourth Judicial Circuit.
Below are the other appointments announced by Ivey, including former Alabama Football star Bobby Humphrey to the Governors' Commission on Physical Fitness, Greensboro State Senator Bobby Singleton to the Alabama State Board and former Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama CEO and President Jim M. Page to the University of North Alabama Board of Trustees.
