As do many retired NFL players, Shade shifted to coaching. He coached at Samford, Georgia State and spent some time on the Browns special teams staff in 2018. He also coached top cornerback of 2021 Kool-Aid Mckinstry who currently plays at Alabama.

The positive impact he made for The Crimson Tide carried on in his coaching position at Pinson Valley. In his time there the Indians made the class 6A state champion and had a 21-6 overall record.

According to Al.com, President of Miles College Bobbie Knight stated, “This is a pivotal moment for Miles College and its athletic program. The experience, professionalism and resources that coach Shade brings will be extremely valuable to the College and the football program.”

Shade replaces Reginald Ruffin who is transitioning to Tuskegee to be the athletic director and head coach.
