Thursday Is Last Chance To Donate To Beat Auburn Beat Hunger
The clock is ticking on the "Beat Auburn, Beat" Hunger 2025 food drive. This coming Thursday is the final day to make a donation in one of the barrels placed across the University of Alabama campus and throughout the cities of Tuscaloosa and Northport. We don't know which school is in the lead right now but rather than take a chance now is the time to donate food or even better, a monetary donation.
Because we are quickly counting down toward the drive's final day, students are already beginning to remove barrels from some businesses and other locations to facilitate a quicker tallying of the results. "Beat Auburn, Beat Hunger" Advisory Allison Espy says dropping your donation by the West Alabama Food Bank (401 65th Street, Tuscaloosa) or going online at the food bank's website will ensure it gets counted in the competition during these final days. If you go online, be sure to note the special purpose for your donation in the designed box. A $1.00 donation equals two pounds of food.

The food drive has advertised on multiple media, including the billboard between the bridge's downtown. There have also been bags placed in neighborhoods to make contributing easier. But despite the high-profile effort that began seven weeks ago at the state capital with Governor Ivey some people may not know about the campaign or have forgotten.
The last time UA won the food drive was 2021, that makes it imperative for Bama students and fans to make their contribution by Thursday. "We're not used to losing," Administrative Assistant Candyce Reed stated. " But the main thing to remember is the importance of the end goal, to help those in need."
Food insecurity rates range from 15% to 31%in the West Alabama Food Bank's nine-county service area of Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa. That is significantly higher than the national average of 12.7%.
Donations can be made at the food bank between 8:00am and 2:00pm daily but Thursday, students will be on hand at the food bank until 5:30.
The "Beat Auburn, Beat Hunger" 2025 Food Drive final totals will be released Friday.
