
Fayette Airport Lands Improvement Grants
The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has awarded more than $3.1 million in Alabama airport grants to support improvement projects at 11 airports across the state. One of the airport's to get a share of the funds from the the latest round of grants from ALDOT's Alabama Airport Improvement Funding Program is Richard Arthur Field in Fayette.

The city owned airport will receive $5,409 to be split between two projects.
- $3,476 for the installation of perimeter fencing. The Federal Aviation Administrtion (FAA) is also providing a grant of $132,107.
- $1,933 for hangar building construction. The FAA is also providing an additional grant of $73,471
“Safe, reliable airport facilities require continued investment,” Frank Farmer, bureau chief of ALDOT’s Aeronautics Bureau stated in a press release. “These grants will help local airports address important needs and maintain facilities that pilots, businesses and communities can depend on.”
The Alabama Airport Improvement Funding Program was established to assist airport owners with the planning, construction and maintenance of aviation facilities. ALDOT may also provide engineering and technical support as needed for approved projects. Planning for the FY 2027 program is currently under way.
Arther Field has a 5,009 foot runway with several private aircraft based there. The city manages fixed base operations at the airport.
