The Escambia Academy Cougars (4-1, 2-0) took on the Tuscaloosa Academy Knights (1-4, 0-2) tonight and defeated them 28-13.  The Cougars, led by junior RB Bubba Nettles, who ran for over 200 rushing yards on 24 carries with 2 TDs, kept this game out of reach from the beginning, dominating on both sides of the ball. Tuscaloosa Academy found what limited success it had through the air, with QB Whitt Winfield throwing for over 200 yards and 2 scores.

"The backs ran the ball hard most of the time, give them (Tuscaloosa Academy) credit, their defense was scrappy, they hustled, and we had a hard time blocking their linebackers. I'm more concerned with our throwing the football. We dropped six or seven passes and we've got to do a better job in that area." said Cougar's coach Hugh Fountain after the victory.

The Cougars improve to 4-1 on the season, while the Knights drop to 1-4.  Looking to next week, Escambia is set to take on Northview High School out of Bratt, FL and Tuscaloosa Academy will matched up against a 3-1 Pike Liberal Arts School team coming out of Troy.

If Escambia can recreate the success found on the ground in tonight's game, they will be a hard team to beat this season, and if Tuscaloosa Academy can find more offensive rhythm and consistency, they can be equally as hard to beat.
