Dive Team Recovers Body of Man Who Jumped from Lake Nicol Cliffs Saturday
Dive teams have recovered a body from a popular outdoor recreation spot in Tuscaloosa after a man did not resurface after he jumped into Lake Nicol from nearby cliffs Saturday.
Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, confirmed TPD, Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue, county sheriff's deputies and state police were called around 5 p.m. and scoured the Lake for signs of a man who reportedly jumped from rocks known locally as The Cliffs Saturday afternoon.
The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit was also called to the scene.
UPDATE: TPD spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor and TFR's Holly Whigam have confirmed the missing man's body has been recovered by divers after a two-and-a-half-hour search.
Any further updates will come from the VCU, which investigates almost all deaths outside a hospital setting in Tuscaloosa County. Their involvement alone should not be taken to mean foul play was involved.
UPDATE: The VCU has identified the victim as an 18-year-old University of Alabama student.
