VCU: Fleeing Driver Killed in Gunfight with Deputies in Northport
A person was fatally shot in a predawn gunfight with sheriff's deputies in Northport on Wednesday morning after fleeing from other police in Hale County.
Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, alerted local media to the officer-involved shooting at about 6:15 a.m.

Kennedy said the deceased suspect was involved in a vehicle pursuit as they fled from Hale County Sheriff's Deputies and the Moundville Police Department.
The driver crossed into Tuscaloosa County, and law enforcement officers successfully spiked their tires somewhere in or near Northport.
"The suspect vehicle came to a stop at Bell Auto Parts, 410 Bridge Avenue, in Northport," Kennedy said. "Shots were fired by the suspect and law enforcement at this location, and the suspect is deceased."
Kenney said the VCU has been tasked with investigating the deadly officer-involved shooting, but because TCSO deputies were involved, supervisors and investigators wh are unaffiliated with the sheriff's office will handle the case.
No other details about the deadly shooting were immediately available Wednesday morning.
