A Demopolis man was killed early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Marengo County, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Troopers confirmed Sunday.

Trooper Reginal King, a spokesperson for the ALEA, said the crash occurred at approximately 2:35 a.m. when Lamarcus Markell Monghan, 27, of Gallion was driving along U.S. 80 near the 26 mile marker.

Monghan's car, a 2014 Toyota Camry, left the roadway and struck a tree. His passenger, Javia Lamar McGrew, 23, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and was fatally wounded in the crash. Law enforcement officers pronounced him dead at the scene.

Monghan was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The crash occurred roughly eight miles west of Demopolis.

Nothing further is available at this time, as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
