A Cottondale teenager died Sunday at an area hospital after a single-vehicle accident outside of Tuscaloosa, State Troopers report.

Corporal Reginal King, a spokesperson for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, said the 17-year-old was driving a 2004 Chevrolet 1500 on Alabama Highway 216 in Tuscaloosa County Sunday morning when they left the roadway around 7:30 a.m.

King said the truck struck an iron sign then went on to hit a tree.

The teenager driving was transported to an area hospital for treatment of severe injuries, but King said the 17-year-old did not survive.

ALEA does not publicly identify juvenile victims of traffic fatalities.

King said the deadly accident happened on Alabama Highway 216 about three miles east of Tuscaloosa city limits.

No other details were available on Sunday.
