Winter Storm Orlena affected portions of the Midwest over the weekend. The storm moves toward the Northeast; it will bring heavy snow and strong winds. As a low-pressure system gains strength off the East Coast, heavier snowfall will develop.

I hope you enjoyed the warm temperatures yesterday. Some areas got into the 70s. I even enjoyed some time on the patio until the temperatures start to drop in the early evening. The transition to the colder temperatures began to kick in during the evening hours.

Today, the National Weather Service Birmingham tells us we should expect “cloudy and breezy today with highs in the low to mid-40s. Decreasing clouds tonight with a freeze. Lows will range from the mid 20s northwest to the low 30s southeast. Mostly Sunny Tuesday with highs ranging from the mid-40s north to the low 50s south.”

This early week cold snap will affect most of the Yellowhammer State. For most of the day, the Northern part of the state should stay in the 30s. The Middle part of the state will be in the low 40s. South Alabama should be in the mid to upper 40s.

What about snow flurries?

It is projected that northern counties could experience some snow flurries. However, no impact is expected at this time. There could be some heavier snow showers in the northeast section of the state for today and tonight.

When will it warm up?

The warm-up will begin later this week. It will last a few days. Then more cold weather is expected over the weekend. More on that tomorrow morning.
