
Chris England Announces Reelection Bid For District 70 Seat
With this being a statewide election year, more and more candidates are throwing their hats into the proverbial election ring. Locally, Democrat Tuscaloosa State Rep. Chirs England has joined them as he seeks re-election to his District 70 seat.
The 49-year-old Tuscaloosa native and Central High graduate has served in the Alabama Legislature since 2006. He also was chair of the Alabama Democratic Party from 2019 until 2022, becoming the first black chair of either major Alabama party in history.
"I sincerely appreciate all of the love and support that you have given me over the years," England stated in his press release. "I hope that I have earned your continued support and that you will allow me the opportunity to work for you in this capacity for another four years."

England earned undergraduate degrees in Political Science and English from Howard University; and went on to graduate from the University of Alabama Law School in 2002. He is currently an Associate City Attorney for the City of Tuscaloosa specializing in claims, franchise agreements, state legislation, business licensing, and tax issues.
In his role as a State Representative, England has been involved in identifying and securing funding for various programs within District 70 and Tuscaloosa. He currently sits on the Contract Review Permanent Legislative Oversight Committee, Ethics and Campaign Finance Committee, Judiciary Committee, Permanent Joint Legislative Committee on Energy Policy Committee and Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee. England also is Cice Chair of the Tuscaloosa County Legislative Delegation.
England serves on the Police Athletic League Board of Directors, as well as the Temporary Emergency Services Board, Phoenix House Board, 6th Judicial Circuit Local Indigent Defense Advisory Board, on the Advocacy Advisory Committee at Bryce Hospital, statewide DHR Task Force, Children’s Policy Council, Region 3 Workforce and Southern Development councils, and other organizations.
England is the son of Judge John H. England Jr., a longtime Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court judge who also served as a justice on the Supreme Court of Alabama. Him and his wife, Shea, have three children.
Party primaries are Tuesday, May 19.
