VCU Investigating Suspected Homicide at Tuscaloosa Apartments

Police and investigators with the Violent Crimes Unit are on the scene of a suspected homicide at an apartment complex in Tuscaloosa.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, confirmed to the Thread that officers are responding to Brookhaven Apartments on James I. Harrison Apartments in Tuscaloosa, where a person has been found dead.

Taylor said officers believe the person there is the victim of a homicide, foul play is suspected, and the killing seems to have been criminal in nature.

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is also responding to the apartment and will take over the investigation and release more information as it becomes available.

UPDATE: 10:45 P.M.: Captain Jack Kennedy has identified the victim as Marshall Holifield, age 67.

By the count of the Thread staff, this is the 11th homicide the VCU has investigated within Tuscaloosa County so far in 2026.
