Just after 9 p.m., Tommy Tuberville unseated incumbent Sen. Doug Jones, according to projections from the Associated Press.

With 90% of the vote counted, Tuberville leads Jones 1,381,938 (60.4%) to 904,683 (39.6%). The former Auburn University football coach led a campaign focused on his support of current president Donald Trump.

Jones, a Democrat, defeated Republican Roy Moore to claim the seat previously vacated by former Attorney General Jeff Sessions in a 2018 special election.

Judging by the results map provided by the Associated Press, Jones claimed Black Belt counties and Jefferson County while Tuberville dominated the rest of the state.

There are still millions of votes to be counted in Alabama, and this story will be updated as those results are reported by the Associated Press.
