BREAKING: Man Shot and Killed at Housing Complex in Tuscaloosa, Alabama
Police in Tuscaloosa are investigating after a man was shot and killed at an apartment complex there early Sunday morning,
Captain Marty Sellers, the co-commander of the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, alerted local media to the shooting just before 4 a.m. Sunday.
Sellers said a man had been fatally shot at John England Manor, a housing complex on Dinah Washington Avenue near 19th Street in West Tuscaloosa.
No further details were immediately available, and Sellers did not say how or why police believe the shooting occurred or if a suspect has been identified or arrested.
The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is a team of detectives from the Tuscaloosa Police Department, the county sheriff's office, the Northport Police Department and the University of Alabama Police Department who work together to investigate all unnatural deaths and homicides in Tuscaloosa County.
By the count of the Tuscaloosa Thread staff, the Sunday shooting marks the 23rd homicide the VCU has investigated in 2021. The unit handled 22 cases last year, which was one of the most violent periods in recent history for the area.
