A major Tuscaloosa intersection was packed with police Friday night after a driver suffering from a gunshot wound caused a collision there.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokeswoman for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said officers were called to the intersection of Skyland Boulevard and Highway 69 South just before 7:30 p.m.

Taylor said a 26-year-old man ran his vehicle into another car and into a guard rail before stepping out of his car and telling the second driver that he had been shot.

Multiple witnesses called 911, and the gunshot victim was taken by ambulance to DCH Regional Medical Center. Taylor said he is suffering from "serious injuries."

The wreck snarled traffic in the area for hours Friday night as police worked to collect evidence and interview witnesses at the scene of the accident.

Taylor said investigators have since located a possible crime scene for the shooting at a nearby apartment complex in Tuscaloosa County, and that the multi-agency Violent Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation and is working to locate a suspect Saturday morning.
