ALDOT to Paint Small Bridge Over I-20 in Tuscaloosa, Expect 5 Weeks of Nighttime Delays
The Alabama Department of Transportation will spend about five weeks painting a small Tuscaloosa bridge that spans over Interstate 20/59 near Skyland Boulevard, they announced Thursday.
John McWilliams, a spokesperson for ALDOT in West Alabama, said they will immediately begin a nighttime project to paint the Third Avenue East bridge over I-20/59 between James I. Harrison Parkway and Skyland Boulevard.
The featured image in this report was shot standing on the bridge but does not picture it.
The bridge is also right beside Skyland Elementary School and will be seeing heavy daily traffic now that classes have resumed, but McWilliams said the painting crews will only work at night to minimize disruptions.
"The contractor is only allowed to close the center and right lanes between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. to reduce the impact on traffic," he said. "Additionally, lane closures will not be allowed on weekends when the University of Alabama has a home football game. Motorists should expect minor delays and are encouraged to observe work-zone speed limits."
McWilliams said the paint they use will prevent corrosion and rust and crews will get started tonight, August 8th, and will continue for approximately five weeks and end sometime in September.
