Stay Off Unfinished US-82 Gordo Bypass For Now
Construction of the US-82 Gordo Bypass began in October of 2024; it is expected to open ahead of schedule at the end of the month. However, the Pickens County Sheriff's Office says motorist are already attempting to use the roadway and that is not a safe proposition right now.
The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) warns that workers and equipment are still present on the eight-mile stretch of highway from the northwest city limits of Gordo to just east of the Tuscaloosa County line.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff's office advised motorists to have patience,
"Construction crews are working hard to complete the project, and it is expected to partially open by the end of July if everything stays on schedule. Unfortunately, individuals who choose to drive on the bypass before it officially opens are creating safety hazards for the workers and delaying the completion of the project.
