The Alabama Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to a local construction company to resurface an almost 5-mile section of Highway 82 in western Tuscaloosa County.

ALDOT spokesperson John McWilliams announced the work on Tuesday morning in a press release and said crews working for S.T. Bunn Construction will resurface a stretch of the highway from Echola Road to near Buhl Cutoff Road.

The work will redo a 4.79-mile portion of road and also improve access management for mobility and safety.

Work begins next Monday, December 1st, and will continue until late summer
2026, if the weather cooperates, McWilliams said.

"Lane closures will not be allowed on eastbound lanes from 6:30 a.m. through 8:30 a.m. to reduce the impact on traffic," McWilliams wrote. "S.T. Bunn Construction Company was awarded the project at $5.3 million."

The monthslong project is expected to cause traffic delays and ALDOT encouraged drivers to observe whatever work-zone speed limits are in place.
