UA Now Requires Free Registration of E-scooters, E-bikes & Electric Skateboards
E-scooters, bikes and skateboards are growing in popularity on the University of Alabama campus, and that proliferation has prompted UA to issue strict, campuswide rules grounded in a new Micromobility Policy released in August.
These rules apply to all personal e-scooters used anywhere at The Capstone.
Registration is mandatory but free for every e-scooter, e-bike, bike, electric skateboard, Onewheel, etc. Failure to register results in a $25 citation, and after three violations the scooter can be impounded with a $150 fine.

Micromobility devices must be UL-certified, which means the safety of the vehicle, battery and charger has been tested. Non-certified devices cannot be registered and cannot be ridden on campus.
Electric vehicle charging stations can be found on campus at:

There is no cost to charge micromobility vehicles at designated charging areas.
When not charging or in use, micromobility devices must be secured at one of the nearly 500 bike racks on campus.
According to a release from UA, five park-and-cover spaces have been added on campus, giving students 282 total charging spaces for devices. Residential locations will help students who are unable to charge their vehicles off campus, and the university is continuing to increase charging capacity as other areas are identified throughout the year.
Residential and commuter students, along with faculty and staff, are permitted to use established charging areas if their devices are registered.
