There is good news and bad news for motorists today.

First the good...

  • Gas prices increased incrementally today by just a penny.
  • After climbing well above the $100.00-mark, Brent crude oil futures plunged more than 10% to around $98 per barrel today.
  • The drop came after President Trump signaled de-escalation by ordering a five day pause on planned US strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure. The move followed what Trump described as constructive talks with Iran over the past two days aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict, with discussions set to continue this week.

Now the bad news...

  • The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, a state-run outlet, denied on social media that the talks ever happened. “No conversation has taken place between Iran and the US, and Trump’s claim about having these talks is #false,” the outlet wrote on X. Iranian leaders vow the war will continue until they are compensated for damages.
  • Prices will not be reflected at the gas pump for a while. It takes two to three weeks for crude oil to be shipped, refined into gasoline and transported to stations. So, there is no telling what will happen in the Middle East during that time.

Today's prices...

  • National per gallon average today rose by one cent to $3.95 A week ago it was $3.71.
