“He told us this past week that he is going to come back again next year, so we’re super happy to get him back,” Oats said Thursday on his weekly show. “I think he is going to be dynamite next year with a year under his belt in the SEC. He’s starting to really play well and come into his own here.”

Gurley averages 7.5 ppg and 3.6 rpg so far through the 2021-22 season, playing in every game this season with his career high in points and rebounds being 20 and 10 against Tennessee in December.

Gurley previously played at Furman, where he played against Alabama twice, for four seasons where he averaged 12.7 ppg and 4.6 rpg. He will be a sixth year senior due to him redshirting his first year at Furman and him planning to use his additional year of eligibility that was granted to college athletes because of COVID.

With Senior Day coming up Saturday against South Carolina, the Crimson Tide only plans to honor five players now: seniors Keon Ellis and James Rojas, redshirt junior Jahvon Quinerly, and walk-ons Tyler Barnes and Britton Johnson.

No. 24 Alabama (18-10, 8-7) plays South Carolina (17-10, 8-7) in Coleman Coliseum on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 5 p.m. CT on the SEC Network. The pregame show will be on 95.3 The Bear and hour before tipoff.
