Alabama Baseball Midseason Report
We are officially halfway through the college baseball season and the Alabama Crimson Tide is currently 16-12 and 2-7 in conference. The SEC continues to dominate the Top 25 in polls with 7 of the top 10 teams being from the Southeastern Conference, and 4 of those are ranked 1-4.
Alabama lost back to back to back weekend series to Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. The Tide is looking for their first conference series win this weekend at Texas A&M.
Alabama is currently 5th in the SEC West rankings, only ahead of 1-8 LSU and Auburn. The Crimson Tide has lost 9 out of the last 10 games. The biggest concern continues to be lack of pitching depth. Connor Prielipp has yet to see the mound since his one and only game on Feb. 19th. Typical Sunday starter, Antoine Jean, will miss his third straight weekend this upcoming series.
Although Tide baseball is in a bit of a slump, there is still seven weeks to turn the season around. Looking ahead, conference games Bama should win include the Auburn, LSU, and Missouri series. The toughest series on the schedule remains as the Tide will have to take on No. 1 ranked Vanderbilt in Nashville May 7-9.
According to D1 Baseball and Baseball America, Bama baseball is among the last three in, in their midseason projected field of 64 for the NCAA tournament. The Tide is a three seed in the most recent projections from both publications.
This season’s hosting sites will be pre-determined by the selection committee, opposed to previous seasons where sites are normally awarded to teams based on rankings. Hosting sites have not yet been announced for the 2021 NCAA baseball tournament.
