Alabama Boxing Hall of Fame to Induct “Tuscaloosa Kid” During Ceremony Saturday
Mike "The Tuscaloosa Kid" Hutchinson will join eight inductees that will be added to the 2023 class of the Alabama Boxing Hall of Fame on Saturday evening in Gasden.
According to a release, the ceremony will take place at The Venue at Coosa Landing at 6 p.m. The event will also feature a professional fight card.
Hutchinson, who compiled a 22-3 professional boxing record with 10 knockouts as a welterweight and Junior middleweight, will be inducted into the in the Pro Boxer category.
The release said following a stellar amateur career, Hutchinson turned professional in 1980 with a first round knockout over Juan Gallardo in Meridian, MS. He followed with 18 consecutive victories.
Hutchinson received training from his father, Charlie, at the 40th street gym off Greensboro Avenue. He was advised by famed manager, trainer and strategist, Angelo Dundee, who also worked with boxing greats Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard.
The release said the Alabama Boxing Hall of Fame was started in 2017 with the support of the Alabama Athletic Commission to honor the state’s rich fistic past and has featured past winners, such as Joe Louis, Evander Holyfield, Deontay Wilder and Earnie Shavers.
