2 More Shot At Tuscaloosa Apartments Where Man Was Murdered Thursday
Two people are expected to survive after they were shot at Tuscaloosa's Brookhaven Apartments, where a Thursday shooting left one man dead and another man injured.
Captain Marty Sellers, the co-commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, confirmed the new shooting just after 1:30 Sunday morning, a few hours after it reportedly occurred.
Sellers said two people were shot at Brookhaven late Saturday night and were taken to DCH Regional Medical Center, where they are being treated. He said medical officers did not believe the injuries were life-threatening.
The apartments, which used to be called Watergate, are at 1310 37th Street East off James I. Harrison Parkway, just before Bowers Park.
2 men were shot there before dawn Thursday morning, including 41-year-old Travaris Keandre Banks, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Police worked all day to identify, locate and arrest 37-year-old Aaron Reshad Smith, who has been charged with murder and attempted murder.
The VCU has already investigated 14 homicides in Tuscaloosa County so far in 2024, making the first half of this year one of the bloodiest in recent memory.
