Two people were killed and others badly injured in a car accident near Gordo early Sunday morning, emergency responders have confirmed.

The Pickens County Ambulance Service said they were called to the scene of a wreck just after 6 a.m. Sunday. The wreck took place on Alabama Highway 158 in Zion, about 8 miles north of Gordo.

Upon arrival, it was immediately evident that more resources would be needed, and multiple helicopter medevac units and more ambulances were dispatched.

The Ambulance Service said multiple patients were transported to area hospitals with traumatic injuries and two people were pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Troopers will oversee the investigation into the wreck and release any details about the identity of the victims who were killed.
