1 Dead, 2 Critical in Friday Wreck in Northport, Bridge Closed

One person is dead and two others are in critical condition after a wreck in Northport early Friday morning.

Assistant Chief Keith Carpenter of the Northport Police Department said officers responded to the Hugh Thomas Bridge which takes Lurleen Wallace Boulevard over the Black Warrior River around 2:45 a.m. Friday.

Carpenter said two vehicles were involved and badly damaged. One person was killed in the collision and the chief said two others are in critical condition.

An investigation is ongoing, with Northport Police Department's Accident Reconstruction and the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit on scene and the Bridge closed as of 9 a.m. Friday.
