James (Jim) Gordon Freeman (May 11th, 1956 – April 19th, 2024)

James Gordon Freeman passed away peacefully at his home in Northport Alabama surrounded by family on the evening of Friday, April 19th, 2024, after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his beloved Mother, Laura Estelle (Williamson) Freeman, his, Father, Henry Clay Freeman, his brothers, Lake Lavelle Freeman and Christopher Garland Freeman.

He was survived by his wife of 37 years Mary Rees (Knobbe) Freeman, daughters Felicia (Steve) King, Amanda (Mackie) RL Wilson and son Andrew Galen Rees (Carra) Freeman, sisters Charlotte Simpson and Frieda Winters, brothers Dwayne (Elaine) Freeman and Bobby (Sharon) Freeman, grandsons Will (Belem) King, Christopher (Grace) King, Christian Lara, Cameron Freeman, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the Lion's Club on Northside Road with Visitation at 9:00 a.m., Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m., Graveside burial (immediate family only) 11:00 a.m. with luncheon to follow at 12:30 p.m.

James was an amazing son, brother, uncle, father, and grandfather as well as a great friend to all he ever met - he never met a stranger. James loved Alabama Football, who doesn't? Roll Tide. He enjoyed hunting and loved fishing with his grandkids. He was a proud Vietnam veteran but rarely told anyone. He coached Little League and Youth Basketball. He didn't even retire until he was 69, from Aptar in Libertyville, IL. He truly enjoyed working and always said, if you like your job, you never work a day in your life! James was also a gifted ballroom dancer and teacher and instilled in many couples a wonderful love of dance for the rest of their lives. He was a faithful member of Journey of Hope (formally Epworth) United Methodist Church of Elgin, Illinois a dedicated Mission Team member providing meals and services to children, the hungry and the homeless. A tireless community volunteer who was always willing to help anyone and every one, this was his special gift to this world and loving his family dearly. You are and will be missed so very much James, Jim, Jimmy, Pedro, Dad, Papa Jim Freeman.
